Greater Noida, November 10: Manav Thakkar, who won his first men singles gold yesterday, continued his winning momentum to bag another gold to his swelling kitty when he blanked out Snehit Suravajjula 4-0 in the Junior Boys final of the 11Sports National Ranking Championships (North) at the Gautam Buddha University hall here today.

Of the four zonal championships, Manav failed just once, losing the South Zone title.

In Junior Girls final, Archana Kamath defeated Shrushti Haleangadi 4-2 to add yet another title to her blossoming career. This was her season’s second after she won her first in East Zone at Siliguri.  

Manav, who is No. 1 on the World Junior Circuit standings, loves to spend as little time as possible at the table. He spent 26 minutes in the semi-final against Delhi’s Parth Virmani but cut down his stay in the final by seven minutes to complete the demolition job against Snehit.

When he is in such a punishing mood, his opponents can do nothing but marvel at the pace with which he plays, using his backhand as effectively as he can his forehand, reeling out winners. That’s what the PSPB paddler did to his Airports Authority of India rival as an error-prone Snehit was unable to come to terms against Manav. Snehit, whose forehand is a potent weapon, did not cooperate with him on the day as Manav handled the topspin returns beautifully.

Earlier in the semi-finals, Senhit made it a simple affair against the hapless Anukram Jain of PSPB Academy, winning the match 4-0.

For Archana, who is a sure shot for the World Juniors to be held in Italy three weeks later like Manav, was little low on confidence and it was visible in the final against Shrushti, a promising junior who can beat the best in business on her day.

Archana was down 1-2 after easily winning the opening game as the Maharashtra girl attacked brilliantly to unsettle Archana, whose shot selections were awful in the second and third games. But her determination to go back home with the golden trophy stood her in good stead as she opened out with nice backhands to level score. Yet, it became a little tricky in the fifth game which went neck and neck before the PSPB girl won 12-10. This gave her the much-needed confidence and she ran into a good lead in the sixth to finish in style.

On the concluding day of the championships tomorrow, four medals are to be won in the sub-junior and Cadet categories. The main draw of these events will get underway later this evening.
