Guwahati, September 30: Payas Jain of Delhi beat state-mate Aadarsh Om Chherti 4-2 for yet another Sub-Junior Boys title this season, while Suhana Saini of Haryana subdued her Karnataka rival, Anargaya Manjunath 4-3 in a tough Sub-Junior Girls final in the 11Sports National Ranking (East Zone) Table Tennis Championships which concluded at the R.G. Barua Sports Complex’s Indoor Stadium here today.

Payas, on hunt for his third title of the season, played superbly to overcome Aadarsh Chhetri. In fact, the latter led 2-1 but Payas, the most experienced of the two, held on to his nerves and levelled the score before going all out on his Delhi rival, who he had beaten at Vijayawada.

But the best part about their play was the free flow of shot and good rallies. However, Aadarsh lacked finishing when it mattered the most and Payas converted all those points to his advantage.

Suhana Saini from Haryana stopped the march of Karnataka’s Anargaya Manjunath, who was seeking her second title this season. Anargaya was on a roll, taking 2-0 lead. But Suhana made a fine recovery to go 3-2 up before the Karnataka girl levelled 3-3. But Suhana played brilliantly to with the decider with a lot to spare and win her first title in the category.

In Cadet Boys final, Karnataka’s Hrishikesh Shetluur emerged as the new champion, beating his Maharashtra rival Akshat Jain, 4-1. This was Hrishkesh’s maiden title. In Cadet Girls, Sayani Panda of West Bengal stamped her authority over Radhika Sakpal of Maharashtra with a 4-0 verdict to add to the tally of her crown this season.

Hrishkesh was steady and consistent against Akshat who was struggling to find his feet. The two little boys, in their first final, played well but most crucial points went the way of the Karnataka paddler. Akshat, on the other hand, was found wanting on the day.

In Cadet Girls final, Sayani was undoubtedly the better player on view despite Radhika challenging her authority in the second game. Sayani tackled really well and was up to the need of the hour, getting her shots right.

In Sub-Junior Boys, Payas Jain and Aadarsh Chetri had some tough time but in the end, the two Delhi boys prevailed over their Tamil Nadu rival, Vishva Deenadayalan and UP opponent, Divyansh Srivastava by the same margin (4-2) in their semifinals for a final showdown.

In Sub-Junior Girls, Karnataka’s Anargaya Manjunath overcame Tamil Nadu’s Kavyashree Baskar 4-2 and Haryana’s Suhana Saini disposed of Maharashtra’s Pritha Vartikar 4-0.

In Cadet semifinals, Hrishikesh Shetluur from Karnataka toiled before putting an end to Punjab’s Suhaan Gulati’s resistance with a 3-0 win while Akshat Jain from Maharashtra had to really work hard to carve out a 3-2 win over state mate Gaurav Panchangam. In Cadet Girls first semifinal between two West Bengal girls, Sayani Panda registered a 3-2 victory against Sandil Bhattacharjee while Radhika Sakpal from Maharashtra accounted for Nandini Saha, also of West Bengal, in straight games.
