Manav, Preyesh finish with silver medals

 

Keeping an unbeaten record unseeded Japanese Fumiya Igarashi defeated for Manav Thakkar of India, the No.3 seed, to emerge winner in the Junior Boys singles final of the 2017 Thailand Junior and Cadet Open, an ITTF Golden Series Junior Circuit event, in Bangkok.

Amalraj finishes runner-up, again

 

So near and yet it was so far. Anthony Amalraj entered the men singles final of an ITTF event for the second successive week, only to lose in the title clash at 2017 Challenge Seamaster Brazil Open, when he went down 1-4 (12-14, 9-11,7-11, 7-11, 5-11) to Brazlian Caldrano Hugo.

Coal India-SAI National TT Academy MoU signed

 

Taking yet another positive step, the Sports Authority of India (SAI), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Coal India Limited (CIL) and the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) for an ultramodern all-encompassing academy, to be set up in Kolkata.

Harmeet breaks into double-digit WR

 

Harmeet Desai joined the select band of Indians to break the barrier of three-digit world ranking mark to be at No. 95. A. Sharath Kamal and Soumyajit Ghosh are the other two men paddlers who had their places sealed long back with their consistent performances. Incidentally, this is the first time ever that three Indians figure in under-100 world ranking.

The Annual General Meeting of the UPTT Association was held on 30th April, 2017, at Lucknow. The following main office-bearers were elected unanimously for a 4-year term (2017-2021)

Ghosh wins Chile Open singles gold; takes doubles gold with Amalraj

 

Top-seeded Soumyajit Ghosh added silverware to his collection of honours when he beat compatriot Anthony Amalraj 4-2 (8-11, 13-11, 11-6, 11-9, 4-11, 11-7) in the men’s singles final at the Seamaster 2017 ITTF Challenge Chile Open in Santiago last night.

With the new season (2017-18) activities beginning in a couple of months, it is time that the state units of TTFI began their registration of new players in both the Cadet and Sub-Junior categories. You are requested to do it diligently and conforming to the norms and guidelines spelt out by TTFI.

Junior and Cadet Girls' wear team crowns

 

In the four team competitions at the 2017 ITTF Belgium Junior and Cadet Open, which concluded yesterday, the Indian paddlers captured the Junior Girls' and Cadet Girls' team. The group stage of the Junior Girls’ Team competition featured four groups of three teams, and the top seeds India were drawn into Group A alongside France and a mixed nationality team of Argentine, Swedish and Thai competitors.
