New Delhi, October 28: After the Indian Cadet Girls grabbed gold and bronze medals in the team event, Kavyashree Baskar earned herself a bronze in the Cadet Girls singles, while Swastika Ghosh was another individual bronze winner in Junior Girls section of the 2019 ITTF Junior Circuit Premium Oman Junior and Cadet Open at Muscat.

Kavyashree, who led the team with Nilishma Sarkar, lost to Chen Pu-Syuan from Taipei 3-11, 2-11, 11-8, 9-11 in a tough semi-final with the latter completely outplaying the Tamil Nadu girl.

However, Nilishma bowed out in the pre-quarters even as Taneesha Kotecha and Sathvika Srinivasan progressed up to the quarterfinal stage.

The Taipei domination was visible throughout as they grabbed all six titles on offer, including in the Junior Girls, where Swastika after securing a semi-final berth could not produce the same kind of results which she achieved in previous rounds as she lost to 5-11, 9-11, 8-11, 11-7, 7-11 to Taipei’s Hsu Yi-Chen. Earlier in the team event, Swastika had teamed up with Anargaya Manjunath to win a silver medal.

But for the Cadet and Junior players, the Muscat outing was a reasonably good outing but the boys could not match the results of our girls.
