Diya-Hanna stopped from golden march at Fiji

Greater Noida, October 29: Matching the defensive and counter play skills of each other, the Chinese duo of Yumeno Soma and Yingqi Huang outplayed the Indian-South Korean pair of Diya Chitale and Ryu Hanna in the Cadet Girls doubles final of the 2017 ITTF World Cadet Challenge at the Vodafone Arena in Suva (Fiji) to win the gold.

 

In the Asia dominated final, Diya and Hanna had to satisfy themselves with the silver medal which was not bad as the top-seeded Chinese pair where were too dominant, despite the second extended game, to win 11-7, 13-11, 11-7.

 

Diya, chosen to represent Asia in the Cadet Challenge, had earlier won a gold when the Asian squad blanked out North America 3-0 in team final earlier this week.

 

In doubles semifinals, which went the full distance, the India-South Korea duo beat the Brazilian-Chilean pair of Livia Lima and Valentina Rio 13-15, 11-9, 9-11, 13-11, 11-8. Earlier in the quarterfinals, they downed Canadian combine of Joyce Xu and Benita Zhou, both players of Chinese origin.
