New Delhi: It was, more or less, an Indian sweep at the Tunisia Open, an ITTF world junior circuit event, held at Rades.

The Indian Junior girls team, comprising Seleenadeepthi Selvakumar, Kushi Viswanath and Manushree Patil, beat hosts Tunisia and the mixed team of Algeria and Egypt to bag the gold medal. The Indian girls kept a clean slate winning all their matches in an authentic fashion with 3-0 verdicts.

However, the Junior girls could not do much in the singles as they failed to progress beyond the quarterfinal stages.

In Junior Boys section, the two-member team of Shaurya Pednekar of Maharashtra and Sriram Kannan of Tamil Nadu won the bronze after they lost to the mixed team of Egypt and Tunisia, ranked a notch higher.

In the boys section, all the boys qualified for the main draw but only Sriram Kannan managed to reach the quarters. The rest faded away in the first or second round.

In Cadet section, Indian boys consisting of Payas Jain of Delhi, Manav Mehta of Maharashtra and Sujan Bhardwaj of Karnataka, lost to the top-ranked Italy 1-3 in the semifinals to be satisfied with the bronze medal. Earlier they had blanked out Saudi Arabia ‘A’ squad 3-0. In the qualifiers, too, the Indians had shown their prowess beating their rivals 3-0.

In Cadet singles, Payas won the bronze as he lost to Matteo Gualdi of Italy, a higher-ranked player, in the semifinals. The Delhi boy lost 1-3. In mini-Cadets, Payas made amends by winning gold in his singles event, when he defeated compatriot Sujan Bharadwaj 3-0. Sujan finished with the silver medal.
