New Delhi: Diya Parag Chitale beat Fadwa Garci of Tunisia 11-5, 11-6, 11-8 to claim the Cadet Girls title in the 2016 Tunisia Junior and Cadet Open at Hammamet, which ended last evening.

However, the Indian was unlucky not to have also won the Junior final where she went down to top-seed Caroline Hajok of Germany 6-11, 11-9, 4-11,, 5-11, 6-11. Diya also lost in the Junior Girls doubles when the Indian paired with Ferdaoues Manna of Tunisia. They were beaten by Mariem Ben Cheikh and Islam Wenaiss, also of Tunisia, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-9 in a closely-fought quarterfinal.

In what turned out to be excellent outing for Diya, who was also the top-seed in the Cadet section, the Indian stamped her authority with a straight set win over the second-seeded Tunisian who groped in the final after having a smooth passage into the final. Diya went into an attacking mode right from the word go and it reflected in her approach to the final while the local girl could not match up to her rival as Diya won by a mile. Earlier, she beat Tunisian Manel Baklouti 3-1 in the quarterfinal and in the semifinal accounted for Egyptian Shahd Sameh 3-0 before taking Fadwa in the final.

The Tunisia event, which is an ITTF Junior Circuit championship, was held between August 31 and September 4.
