New Delhi: Archana Girish Kamath is on a real grind these days. Trying to up the ante on the domestic circuit—she began the season with a title in the Youth Girls section—the girl from Karnataka has just completed a hat-trick of crowns in the ITTF Junior Circuit 2016 Morocco Open.  The Junior Open championships were held between July 7 and 10 at Agadir.

After having been top-seeded at the event, she had to keep her reputation intact and she did precisely what was needed of her when she won all three gold medals—the maximum on offer. She first won the Junior Girls (under-18) team event and followed it up with doubles and singles titles.

She won the team and doubles gold partnering local girl Rime Nehli. But in the singles, Archana accounted for Algerian Hiba Feredz 4-1 in the final and before that in the semifinal she had blanked out Nehli for a 4-0 score.

Archana Kamath, who turns out for Airports Authority of India, did well in the North Zone National Ranking championships at Chandigarh last month. She reclaimed the Youth title beating her AAI colleague Sreeja Akula 4-1, despite the fact that she failed to defend the junior title. Archana’s first Youth title came in the same event at Agra a couple of seasons ago.

The three titles at Morocco should do her a world of good, apart from restoring her confidence in winning the junior title in the remaining national ranking events. But before that, Archana would team up with other members of AAI and try to make a splash in the forthcoming Inter-Institutional Championships at Jaipur which, incidentally, are hosted by AAI.
