G. Sathiyan beat compatriot Manav Thakkar 3-1 in the men's singles final of the WTT Feeder Beirut 2024 for the gold in Lebanon on Thursday.

Sathiyan thus became the first Indian to win the singles title at a WTT Feeder Series event. Incidentally, it was also his first singles crown since the 2021 Czech International Open.

Diya Chitale and Manush Shah joined the party in another all-Indian mixed doubles final to win gold.

World No. 103 Sathiyan, seeded 11th in the tournament, defeated world No. 74 and ninth seed Thakkar 6-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-4 after being a game down.

Earlier, the two-time CWG gold medal winner pulled off a major upset when he beat Chuang Chih-Yuan of Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals.  The India paddler beat Chuang, a former world No. 3 and ranked 39 now, 11-8, 11-13, 11-8, 11-9.

Manav Thakkar beat former World Championships bronze medallist Ahn Jae Hyun of Korea 11-9, 11-8, 12-10 for a showdown with Sathiyan in the final.

Manav and Manush Shah came up short against world No. 29 Jorge Campos and Andy Pereira of Cuba, losing 1-3 (11-5, 7-11, 11-13, 12-14) in the men’s doubles. Manav and Manush had beaten compatriots SFR Snehit and Jeet Chandra 11-3, 13-11, 7-11, 11-9 in the semi-finals.

In the mixed doubles final, Diya Chitale and Manush Shah combined well to down Manav Thakkar and Archana Kamath 11-6, 10-12, 11-6, 11-6 and wear the crown. Shah and Chitale dominated proceedings despite losing the second game.

Manav, despite figuring in all three finals, had to be satisfied with the silver medals.

Poymantee Baisya Ayhika Mukherjee Sreeja Akula and Diya Chitale made it to the semis in women’s doubles, but neither made it to the title match.
