Punit settles for silver, Bhoota and Divyaj join the party

New Delhi, June 24: Punish Biswas had to satisfy himself with the silver when he lost 11-9, 4-11, 8-11, 10-12 to Lee in the singles final of the Under-15 Boys at the WTT Youth Star Contender Lima 2023 yesterday night.

 

And two other Indians, P.B. Abhinand and Prianuj Bhattacharyya ended with a bronze each after they lost their semifinal matches to Punit and Leet Seungso, respectively, the eventual finalists. Punit beat Abhinand 3-1 and Lee downed Prianuj for a similar score.

 

India also got another silver when Divyaj Roy and Bhoota Raina combined in the Under-15 mixed doubles final However, the Indian pair went down 1-3 (8-11, 11-8, 4-11, 7-11) the Koreans Lee Seungso and Nahyun Choi.

 

In the doubles, Punit and Divyaj Roy paired up to settle for the third silver after going down Rawad Alnaser and Ahmed Korani in straight games to the Qataris. But, Abhinand and Priyanuj lost to Steven Moreno and Enrique Rios of Spain 1-3 to end up with the bronze medals.

 

In the Under-19 Boys doubles, Jash Modi and Reny Chambert-Weil of the Netherlands had to settle for the silver after losing 0-3 to Miguel Pantoja and Daniel Berzosa, a Dutch-Spanish combination. Earlier, Ankur and Jeral Montejo of Puerto Rico lost the pre-quarterfinals in the same section.

 

In the U-19 singles, Ankur fell in the quarters while Jash Modi, Abhinand and Divyaj exited in the pre-quarters.
