New Delhi, May 24: Manika Batra bowed out 3-4 in the round of 32, going down to Adriana Diaz of Puerto Rico at the World Table Tennis Championships in Durban today.

It was a tough ask for world No. 39 against the Puerto Rican, ranked No. 13, despite starting well. With the players tied 3-3 at the end of the sixth game, it was anybody’s match and Diaz packed a punch in the decider with a lot to spare. Diaz won 6-11, 12-10, 11-9, 6-11, 13-11, 9-11, 11-3 to enter the pre-quarterfinals.

Yet, it was the best result for India in the singles competitions after A. Sharath Kamal and G Sathiyan exited after losing in the round of 64.

Sharath and Sathiyan will take on England’s Paul Drinkhall and Liam Pitchford in the men's doubles pre-quarters. In the CWG final, the Indian duo had beaten the English pair for gold.

Manika and Archana Kamath will clash with Hina Hayata and Mima Ito of Japan in the round of 16 of women's doubles later in the day.
