The Committee of Administrators (CoA) of Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) is concerned about the discrimination against women and girl players in the award of prize money despite the level of the competition being the same as that for men and boys. The lack of parity in pay of female and male sportspersons in India is antithetical to the principle of equality as enshrined in Article 39(a) and Article 16(2) of the Indian Constitution as well as the Code on Wages, 2019. Equal pay is crucial not only to improve the visibility of women in sports but to also steer the narrative around equality within sports.
