Indian juniors maintain regional superiority

 

 

New Delhi, April 25: Success also continued at the South Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championships, held at Maldives, as Team India made a complete sweep of gold in team and singles events, apart from grabbing a few silver medals.

 

In all, India won 12 gold and four silver medals.

 

This regional competition, held for the first time in Maldives, saw participation of India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Maldives.

 

The Manav Thakkar-led team in Junior Boys in the company of Manush Shah and Jeet Chandra won the team gold even as Manav accounted for singles gold in what was an Indian affair as Jeet had to satisfy with the silver medal. Manav, the world No. 2, won his third gold medal when he paired up with Manush Shah in the doubles.

 

In Junior Girls, Archana Kamal along with Yashini Sivashankar won the team gold and then combined with Selenadeepthi Selvakumar to win doubles gold in the same section.

 

The Indians also grabbed Cadet Boys and Cadet Girls team gold medals apart from singles as Dev Shroff and Trisha Gogoi executed their plans well. Even the Hopes boys and girls singles gold also came the India ways when Suresh Raj Preyesh and Suhana Saini beat their Pakistani and Maldives opponents, respectively, in the finals.

 

A.S. Kelr was the chief referee of the three-day competitions held at Male.
