Sharath Kamal, reaches career best ranking

 

 

New Delhi: India's Sharath Kamal jumped 12 places to reach his career best ranking of 32 as per the latest ranking list released by International Table Tennis Federation.

 

Sharath Kamal reached the third round in the QOROS World Table Tennis Championship but was forced to withdraw because of hip injury. He was supposed to play Chinese Fang Bo in the third round. He had beaten the higher ranked Simon Gauzy of France in the second round of the World TT championship.

 

Sharath has been in good form this season and had beaten two world number 20 players in the Asian Championship in Jaipur. Sharath gained 56 rating points in the last month to finish with 2296 points. His previous best ranking was 38 which he achieved in 2014 May

 

For the first time, India has two players in the top 100 with Soumjayit Ghosh gaining nine places to be ranked at 95. Soumjayit had reached the second round in the WTTC.

 

G. Sathiyan who qualified for the main draw of the WTTC was the biggest gainer in the latest ranking list. Sathiyan jumped 26 places to be ranked 162 in the world.

 

Harmeet Desai dropped eight places to be ranked 167th in the world while Sanil Shetty is ranked at 242. Jubin Kumar improved his ranking from 330 to 317 while Himansha Jindal (716) entered the ranking list for the first time.

 

Among women, Mouma Das who lost in the first round in WTTC has gained seven places and she is ranked 164th in the world. K. Shamini who qualified for the main draw of the WTTC is ranked 202.

 

Poulami Ghatak has gained 13 places to be ranked 182 in the world. Ankita Das also moved up the ranking list as she gained four places to be ranked 186th. Madhurika Patkar moved up 13 places to be ranked 213th in the world. Archana Kamath gained 16 places to be ranked at 310.

 

Selena Selvakumar gained entry into the ranking list for the first time and she is placed at 391. Seraha Jacob (513) and Abhinaya Ramesh (647) were the other two who entered the ranking list for the first time.
