HTTA offers Rs. 3 lakh in prize money for state meet

New Delhi, November 3: The 48th Haryana Ranking Table Tennis Championships, to be held at Vivekanand Senior Secondary School in Sirsa (Haryana) between November 12 and 17, will carry a total prize purse of Rs. 3 lakh, announced Mahinder Pal Singh, secretary of the Haryana Table Tennis Association, here today.

The six-day event will see nearly 350 paddlers from different districts of the state participating in six categories (men, women, youth, junior, sub-junor and Cadet) in singles, doubles and mixed doubles, besides the team championships.

The state ranking championships assume significance as selection of the state teams for the Junior and Youth championships beginning at Allepey (Kerala) later this month, the Sub-Junior and Cadet Nationals at Rajahmundry (Andhra Pradesh) in December and the Senior Nationals at Pondicherry in January 2015 will depend on the performance of the players at Sirsa, said the HTTA secretary.

He also added that his association, as recognition and incentive to the players, has been conducting state championships with prize money and this year has increased it to Rs. 3 lakh in total. Top eight players in all categories will be considered for prize money with winners of the singles events getting a big bite of the purse.

“In HTTA, we want to recognize the players’ contribution and we feel prize money can be a good incentive to goad them to perform better,” said Singh.
