Bhavina strikes gold in Thailand

 

Indian's Bhavina Patel made her country proud, winning gold at the ITTF Thailand Para Open 2023. The Tokyo Paralympics silver medallist defeated local girl Wijittra Jaion 8-11, 11-7, 11-5, 13-11 in a gripping singles final of a Class 4 event.

Indian boys' teams finish with bronze in Asian Youth

 

India's U-15 and U-19 Boys squads defeated Singapore and Hong Kong in the quarterfinals of the 27th Asian Youth 2023 in Doha last night. However, the two teams failed to cross the semi-final hurdles and ended up with the bronze medals from the outing, a qualification event for the World Youth Championships in Slovenia in December.

The members of the senior selection committee of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) named a 10-member squad, comprising five men and five women, for the upcoming 26th Asian Championships in Pyeongchang, Korea, and the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

The selection committee today named a 14-member team, consisting of seven boys and seven girls, to participate in the 27th Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships, commencing in Doha from July 17 to 22.

Consistent Sutirtha-Ayhika pair wins gold

 

Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee did what no other doubles pair has done before. On Sunday night, the two defeated the second-seeded Japanese Miyuu Kihara and Miwa Harimoto in the women’s doubles final of the WTT Contender Tunis 2023 to win gold.

Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee caused the biggest upset of the tournament when they toppled top-seed and World No. 4 pair from Korea, Shin Yubin and Jeon Jihee, in the women’s doubles semifinals of the WTT Contender Tunis 2023 to be a step closer to the yellow metal. The Indian pair won 7-11, 11-9, 11-9, 7-11, 11-9 in a nervy outing to ensure themselves a silver medal.

Punish Biswas had to satisfy himself with the silver when he lost 11-9, 4-11, 8-11, 10-12 to Lee in the singles final of the Under-15 Boys at the WTT Youth Star Contender Lima 2023 yesterday night.

Harmeet upsets World No. 26 Peng, storms into semis

 

Unseeded Harmeet Desai is on a song. After surprising everyone with an unexpected run and victory over top-seed Korean Jang Woojin in the pre-quarterfinals yesterday, the Indian sent World No. 26 Peng Xiang from China packing 3-1 (11-7, 5-11, 11-7, 11-1) and reaching the medal rounds in the ongoing WTT Contender at Lagos today.
