Juniors Siddesh, Archana crowned at India Open

 

The new-found confidence helped Siddesh Pande outwit top-ranked Manav Thakkar 4-2 in the Junior Boys singles final, thus denying the latter a double-gold treat in the 11Even Sports 2015 India Junior and Cadet Open Table Tennis Championships at the Abhay Prashal here today. Archana Kamath Giri, despite a threat, held on to win the Junior Girls crown when she beat Serala Jacob 4-3.

Sreeja survives a scare; Srushti topples Archana

 

Top-ranked Manav Thakkar entered the semifinals in both the Cadet Boys and Junior Boys sections of the 11Even Sports 2015 India Junior and Cadet Open Table Tennis Championships at the Abhay Prashal here today. But Srushti Haleangadi handed out junior national champion Archana Kamath a 3-2 thrashing in Cadet Girls quarterfinals in what was the only upset on the day.

For the first time in recent years, national champion and top-seed Manav Thakkar was involved in a two-way tie and had to wait for a while to know his qualification in the main draw of the Cadet Boys singles in the 11Even Sports 2015 India Junior and Cadet Open Table Tennis Championships at the Abhay Prashal here today.

A-class performance by 'B' team Bagful of medals for Indians

 

Ravindra Kotiyan and his partner Sanish Ambekar not only exacted a sweet revenge from Saudi Arabia’s duo of Ali Akhadrawi and Abdulaziz Bu Shulaybi but also made the 11Even Sports 2015 India Junior and Cadet Open Table Tennis Championships utterly an Indian show. The India B pair, propelled by Kotiyan, beat Saudi Arabia 3-1 at the Abhay Prashal here today to complete the sweep of team championship medals. Apart from the gold medals, the various teams of India won all the silver and bronze medals on offer.

India E Cadet team jolts India A; both enter semifinals

 

India A team, comprising Archana Kamath Girish and Srushti Haleangadi, took the top spot after a bit of struggle against India E, who finished behind them in Group A in the Cadet Girls section on the opening day of the 11Even Sports 2015 India Junior and Cadet Open Table Tennis Championships at the Abhay Prashal here today.

Pullouts by strong teams like Singapore and Thailand may have put a spanner in the works of 11Even Sports 2015 India Junior and Cadet Open Table Tennis Championships, beginning at the Abhay Prashal here from tomorrow, making the event utterly Indian in more sense than one. It has nevertheless thrown down the gauntlet for several Indian young paddlers to accept the challenge and carve out a niche for themselves against the best in the two sections.
