As I recall the year that went by, I can with certain authority and authenticity say that it was fruitful in more ways than one. I will begin with what our paddlers achieved in 2013 to justify my assessments. However, I will be guarded in my words lest I sound pompous.

3 overage boys debarred, Mizoram scratched

 

Ronit Bhanja, Udit Bhattacharya and Lalruat Puiab, who were found to be overage after medical tests conducted at the Jawaharlal Nehru Government Hospital here, were debarred from participating in the ONGC Cadet and Sub-Junior National Table Tennis Championships at the MC Chowhan Indoor Stadium today.

Manika, Ayhika enter pre-quarters

 

Buoyant after their credible performance which helped them finish ninth in the team event of the ongoing World Junior Championships, the Indian girl paddlers Manika Batra and Ayhika Mukherjee continued to make waves in Morocco.

Indian girl paddlers finish ninth

 

The Indian girls’ team finished ninth after beating Croatia 3-2 in the classification match at the 2013 World Junior Table Tennis Championships here today. The team, comprising Manika Batra, Suthirtha Mukherjee, Ayhika Mukherjee and Reeth Rishya Tennison, managed to win their singles which helped the team claim in the 9-10 play-off matches this morning.

Manika gets direct entry in World Junior TT

 

 A four-member girls’ team, comprising Manika Batra, Suthirtha Mukhejee, Reeth Rishya Tennison and Ayhika Mukeerjee, and Sudhanshu Grover, the lone qualifier in the boys’ section, will be leaving for the 2013 World Junior Table Tennis Championships, to be held  at Rabat, the capital of Morocco, between December 1 and 8.

Bhavina wins silver at Beijing

 

Bhavina Hashmukhbhai Patel, a surprise finalist, became the first Indian to win a silver medal at the 2013 ITTF PTT Asian Table Tennis regional championships here today. Bhavina lost to top-seed Zhang Miao of China 6-11, 9-11, 2-11 in the final of the Women’s singles Class 4 Second Stage

TT's one man army Ranga is no more

 

Veteran sport administrator and the only founding member of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) in India, T.D. Ranga Ramanujam, breathed his last at his Cuddalore home yesterday.
