Sathiyan wins Spanish gold; Manika-Mouma pair adds silver

 

G. Sathiyan added to his list of prestigious titles in the Mediterranean coastal resort of Almeria, when he beat Japan’s Kazuhiro Yoshimura 4-2 (11-7, 3-11, 11-6, 6-11, 13-11, 11-7) in the men singles final of the 2017 ITTF Challenge Spanish Open last night.

 G. Sathiyan entered the men singles final of 2017 Challenge Spanish Open when he defeated Lam Siu Hang of Hong Kong 11-7, 11-8, 11-3, 8-11, 12-10 to become the first Indian to do an encore in a Challenge series at Almeria today.

Diya-Hanna stopped from golden march at Fiji

 

Matching the defensive and counter play skills of each other, the Chinese duo of Yumeno Soma and Yingqi Huang outplayed the Indian-South Korean pair of Diya Chitale and Ryu Hanna in the Cadet Girls doubles final of the 2017 ITTF World Cadet Challenge at the Vodafone Arena in Suva (Fiji) to win the gold.

Diya a part of gold-winning Asian squad

 

Team Asia, comprising India's Diya Chitale, yet again dominated the scene by winning gold in the team event of the World Cadet Challenge in Suva, according to reports reaching here today.

Manav first Indian junior to take top spot

 

Manav Thakkar became the first Indian to occupy the top spot (3,455 points) on the ITTF World Junior Circuit standings, following the conclusion of play in Belgrade recently. He was previously placed at No. 5 position.

Harmeet-Soumyajit pair wins silver

 

It was no disgrace for the fifth-seeded Indian pair of Harmeet Desai and Souymajit Ghosh which had to be satisfied withh the silver medal as the duo lost to No.2 seeds Korean pair of Ho Kwan Kit and Ng Pak Nam 12-10, 6-11, 8-11, 9-11 in the final of the 2017 ITTF Challenge Polish Open in Czestochowa on Sunday.

Manav raises bar, adds singles gold

 

 India's Manav Thakkar raised the bar yet again when he beat Japanese Takeru Kashiwa 11-6, 11-3, 11-5, 11-6 in the final to win the Junior Boys singles gold in the 2017 Slovenia Junior and Cadet Open at Otocec which concluded last night.

Doubles gold for Manav-Manush duo

 

India's Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah combined well in the Junior Boys doubles final to beat the top-seeded Chinese Taipei duo of Feng i-Hsin and Tai Ming-Wei 11-7, 11-6, 17-15 and claim gold in the 2017 Slovenia Open Junior and Cadet Open at Otocec here today.

1-2 podium finish for India Juniors at Otocec

 

Indian paddlers dominated the proceedings in the team events of the Junior Boys section in the 2017 Slovenia Junior and Cade Open in Otocec, as Team India ‘B’ proved superior to Team India ‘A’ in the finals to share gold and silver, in that order, today.

Biggest award of my life: Amalraj

 

He was hoping against hope in 2016, especially after helping India win men doubles silver in Glasgow-a lone medal for table tennis from the Games in 2014. But he was ignored the Arjuna. Understandably, Anthony Amalraj was disappointed and deeply hurt. Yet he was happy for the fellow Team India paddler, Soumyajit Ghosh, who was preferred because the brief to the selection committee was to consider those qualified for the Olympics at Rio.
