Visakhapatnam, August 22: A. Sharath Kamal claimed his sixth Institutional singles title when he beat Manush Shah of RBI 4-2 in the singles final of the AAI-50th Inter-state National championships at the Swarna Bharati Stadium today.
But the sixth one took six years. Nevertheless, the second seed earned the well-deserving honour after other top seeds fell by the wayside in the pre-quarters and quarterfinals.
A heavy exodus of seeds before the finals
Visakhapatnam, August 21: Following the mass departure of men seeds in the morning, top-seed Manika Batra joined the gang in the evening when she surrendered meekly to eighth-seed Moumita Dutta of RSPB, going down 0-3 in the quarterfinals of the AAI-50th Inter-state National championships at the Swarna Bharati Stadium today.
In other one-sided quarterfinals, second-seed Sreeja Akula beat Sutirtha Mukherjee of RSPB, and third-seed Diya Chitale downed sixth-seed Reeth Ris

Visakhapatnam, August 20: Nithyashree Mani of Bank of Baroda Sports Control Board (BBSCB) caused a major upset when she beat fourth seed Ayhika Mukherjee of RBI in the Round 32 singles of the ongoing AAI-50th Inter-state National championships at the Swarna Bharathi Stadium today.

Visakhapatnam, August 19: Harmeet Desai and Manika Batra got the top billing in the singles by being the top-ranked players in the world in the ongoing AAI-50th Inter-state National championships at the Swarna Bharathi Stadium today.
Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula follow them in their respective sections. Sathiyan and Manav Thakkar, who are behind Sharath, should come at No. 3 and 4, as they were among the top 100 in world rankings when the entries closed last week.

Visakhapatnam, Aug 18: The golden jubilee edition of the Institutional Championships, conducted by the Airports Authority of India, had a few firsts. First, the RBI women entered their final after sending defending champions PSPB packing in the semifinals. In a second surprise, the AAI's men shocked runners-up RSPB to enter their maiden final, and, finally, four different institutions booked their berths in the Inter-state National championships later this season.
