Sathiyan, Suthirtha walk away with men and women's titles


Gandhidham, October 18: Top-seeded G. Sathiyan, who lost the Central Zone men’s singles title by a whisker, redeemed himself in a big way to beat No. 2 seed and national champion Sanil Shetty 4-1 in the final of the Indian Oil National Ranking (West Zone) Table Tennis Championships at the KDTTA indoor stadium here today. Sathiyan had lost the crucial final to Gujarat’s Devesh Karia at Indore.

Second-seed Pooja falls by wayside; Shetty struggles


Gandhidham, October 17: If top-seeded G. Sathiyan was on a roll, second-seed Sanil Shetty was definitely not in the cozy zone in the men’s singles quarterfinals of the Indian Oil National Ranking (West Zone) Table Tennis Championships at the KDTTA indoor stadium here today.

Gandhidham, October 15: Top-seed seed Ayhika Mukherjee’s exit in the Junior Girls’ first round has not only upset the balance of top-half of the main draw but has also made the bottom half slightly heavier in the ongoing Indian Oil National Ranking (West Zone) Table Tennis Championships at the KDTTA indoor stadium here today.

Archana in Asian team for World Cadet Challenge


Gandhidham, October 15: Archana Kamath Girish will represent the Asian Region in the 2014 World Cadet Challenge to be held at Bridgetown, Barbados, from October 23 to November 1. Archana will be leaving for Barbados Monday next.

 

Archana, with her excellent showing in the Asian Juniors at Mumbai, was selected by the selection committee members from the Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU) who had assembled at the Mumbai championships in September.
