Pune, October 11:  Aadarsh Om Chetri of Delhi finally overcame the presence of Vishwa Deenadayalan of Tamil Nadu and avenged his earlier defeat to win the Sub-Junior Boys title 4-3 in the 11Sports National Ranking (West Zone) Table Tennis Championships which concluded at the Mhalunge-Balewadi Sports Complex here today.

The Sub-Junior Girls singles title went to Haryana’s Suhana Saini who accounted for Anargaya Manjunath of Karnataka 4-0 in what turned out to be a one-sided final.

The Boys final was befitting the occasion and both, having known each other’s play, were expected to fight all way through and they did exactly that, not yielding even an inch to the other. In the end, Chetri did well to finish off rather quickly without allowing Vishwa any leeway for a comeback.

Suhana, playing with authority right, especially from the second game, downed her Karnataka rival in straight games. Anargaya, who played a tough semifinal, could not handle the attacking Suhana who went from strength to strength. Except for the first game, which got extended, the rest were so easy for the Haryana girl. In fact, Anargaya missed a chance in the opening game where she could have taken it to mount pressure on Suhana.

In Cadet Boys’ final, Emon Adhikary of West Bengal dropped a game after leading 3-0 when his opponent Gaurav Pancham from Maharashtra somewhat redeemed himself. But Emon was very clinical in his approach and waited before committing himself.

In Cadet Girls’ finals, Sayani Panda yet against proved her class winning the title for yet another time. Nandini Saha, her rival, just troubled her once in the second game which saw three deuces before Sayani won 14-12. Otherwise, it was Sayani who showed better temperament at her age to keep her cool and calm and strokes that suited the occasion.  

It was a touch-and-go semifinal between Arnargaya and Sneha in the decider. At 9-all, Sneha missed a chance which the Karnataka girl converted to her advantage before serving out for the match. But, earlier, the West Bengal girl did well to recover from 1-3 to level 3-3.

The match saw good, long rallies and equally good conversions by both girls. In fact, Anargaya was cruising along nicely before Sneha applied the break to give some worries.

At the adjacent table, Suhana Saini had to overcome a stiff resistance from Yashaswini Ghorpade who mounted pressure on the Haryana after equaling 3-3. The Karnataka girl who was brilliant both in the fifth and sixth games, slackened a bit in the decider and gave away too many negatives to her Haryana opponent. Suhana happily grabbed the points and piled on Yashaswini’s agony.

It will be second time this season that both Vishwa Deenadayalan and Aadarsh Om Cherti will be competing in the final. Vishwa accounted for Soumyadeep Sarkar 4-2 while Chetri disposed of Divyansh Srivastava 4-1 quickly without dropping a sweat.

In Cadet Boys’ semifinals, Gaurav Pancham beat Adlakhiya Jatin of Telangana 3-1 while Emon Adhikary defeated Balamurugan Muthu of Tamil Nadu in straight games. In Cadet Girls’ Sayani Panda and Nandini Saha, both of West Bengal, will clash in the final after beating their rivals Sana D’Souza of Maharashtra and Niharika Ananth Kumar of Karnataka, respectively.
