Vanshika sends top-seed Yashini packing; Parth arrows down second seed Manush

 

Siliguri, October 26: Delhi’s Vanshika Bhargava knocked out top-seed Yashini Sivasankar of Tamil Nadu 11-8, 10-12, 11-7, 11-7 to earn a quarterfinal meeting with Airports Authority of India’s Selenadeepthi Selvakumar in the Junior Girls singles of the 11Even Sports National Ranking (East Zone) Table Tennis Championships at the SMC Indoor Stadium here today.

 

Selena beat Surabhi Patwari of West Bengal 9-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-8. Second-seeded Prapti Sen of West Bengal had a 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 win over another Tamil Nadu girl, Deepika Neelakandan to move into the quarterfinals where she will take on Delhi’s Ishita Gupta. The latter triumphed over Manushree Patil of AAI 11-8, 11-3, 11-8.

 

In the second quarter of draw, Karnataka’s Kushi Viswanath clashes with Swastika Ghosh of Maharashtra in the quarterfinals after winning over Telangana’s Varuni Jaiswal (11-9, 12-10, 11-7) and Poymantee Baisya of West Bengal (11-9, 11-6, 11-8). The third quarter saw both Srushti Halaengadi of Maharashtra and PSPB’s Archana Kamath moving into the quarters. Srushti defeated AAI’s Priyanka Pareek (11-6, 11-5, 5-11, 11-9) while Archana beat Shreya Deshpande of Maharashtra 11-8, 11-6, 11-4).

 

 

Meanwhile, Kerala’s Soham Bhattcharya sent third-seeded Anukram Jain of PSPB packing 8-11, 11-9, 11-3, 11-7 to make the quarterfinal cut in Junior Boys category. Similarly, unseeded Parth Virmani of Delhi accounted for second-seed Manush Shah of Gujarat 8-11, 11-3, 12-10, 5-11, 11-8 in a taxing duel. But for this upset, top-seeded Manav Thakkar and fourth seed Jeet Chandra all advanced to the quarters without any hassle.

 

Delhi’s Payas Jain beat Haryana’s Shakrej Gourang to book his quarterfinal place. The Delhi boy won 11-3, 11-7, 11-7 in what turned out to be a one-sided match. And Maharashtra’s Albuquerque overcame stiff resistance from North Bengal’s Soumyadeep Sarkar to win 11-7, 9-11, 11-5, 6-11, 11-9. 

 

Manav defeated Akash Pal of West Bengal 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 to take on Delhi’s Hardik Khurana, who beat SFR Snehit in straight games of 12-10, 11-8, 11-6. Goa’s Wesely Do Rossario beat Sarthak Sethi of Up 10-12, 11-13, 11-9, 11-5, 11-8. After being down and almost out, the Goan lad put up a great fight to overcome the UP boy. Like the top-seed Manav, fourth seed Jeet Chandra easily defeated Deepit R Patil of Maharashtra 11-5, 11-6, 11-9 and he will take on Wesely in the quarterfinal.

 

In the meantime, the seeded men players get into action later tonight after enjoying byes. Souyajit Ghosh, who is a local and has a good following, will be seen in action tonight when he takes on Gautan Dhruvansh of UP, who struggled against another qualifier from West Bengal, Arnab Sarkar, before winning 4-3 to move into the round of 64.
