Indore, September 28: Unseeded Anukram Jain of PSPBA sent third seed Sarthak Seth of Uttar Pradesh packing in the second round of the Junior Boys main draw in the 11Even Sports National Ranking (Central Zone) Table Tennis Championships this morning.
Anukram defeated the UP boy in straight games of 11-9, 11-6, 11-8 to enter the pre-qaurterfinals where he will take on West Bengal’s S Bhattacharya, also unseeded. The latter downed Goa’s Wesley Do Rossario 11-8, 11-4, 11-4. Delhi’s Parth Virmani defeated Snehit Suravajjula from Talengana 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 in the pre-quarters.
No. 1 and 2 seeds—Manav Thakkar, Jeet Chandra and fourth seeded Manush Shah —made it to the quarterfinals without any hiccups, beating their rivals. Manav beat Shivjit Lamba of Delhi 3-1, Jeet downed V Harikrishna of Telanga 3-1 and Manush outplayed H.Jeho of PSPBA, also for the same 3-1 verdict.
In men’s singles, the seeded players enter the fray this evening after first rounds of byes. In women’s singles, it was business as usual for all the seeds as they all moved into the pre-quarterfinals. Archana Kamath had a tough time against Mousumi Paul of PSPB before subduing the latter 4-3 (8-11, 9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-, 11-8, 11-8) in a marathon that lasted more than 40 minutes. Now the Airports Authority of India girl will run into Ankita Das of PSPB in the quarters. Ankita had earlier downed Telangana’s Nikhat Bhanu 4-2.
