Just a few days after the completion of Central Zone National Ranking Table Tennis Championships at Jamnagar, Gujarat, the paddlers’ convoy in all ages and shapes will cross over to Thane, Maharashtra, for the West Zone championships. In other words, there is hardly any breathing time for the players. But they are not complaining. They know the importance of these events and the ranking points.
For the parents, too, it is some valuable time spent with their children in action. They are up-close to root for them and watch their performance with keen interest. Every bit of accommodation in the vicinity of Thane’s stadium, where the event is to be held, will be occupied by the players and parents. It’s a festive time for Thane hoteliers!
However, the organizers, especially Yatin Tipnis, will have a tough time. But Yatin has a wonderful team of people to pull along. Last time it hosted the West Zone, Thane experienced some rain and shine but this time, hopefully, the conditions will be nice and to the advantage of the players. Additionally, the paddlers from the hosts’ state will have a point to prove to the crowd because the pressure will be immense.
The championships dates are: October 14 to 19, 2015.
